Candle Care and Safety Instructions

All of our luxury soy candles are lovingly handmade to provide you with hours of fragrant bliss. To keep them looking and burning their best (and safest), follow the tips below to enjoy an amazing scent experience.

Burning the perfect candle…

There is a certain way you should burn and care for your soy candles. Below are a few tips to follow to enjoy the most out of your candle.

  • Upon the first burn of your candle, keep it lit for at least two hours, or until the entire surface is melted and each time thereafter. This will help prolong the life of your candle
  • Trim wooden wicks to between 3-5mm. Trimming or cutting the wick too low, will cause the wick to be drowned out. If a wooden wick is left too long, the wax will not be able to capillary up the wick to sustain a flame, and will either produce a very low flame or in some cases will even self-extinguish
  • Trim wick (cotton wick) to approx 6mm before lighting again. This will maintain an even and clean burn
  • Do not burn for more than 3-4 hours at a time
  • Extinguish a candle if it repeatedly smokes, flickers, or the flame becomes too high. The candle isn’t burning properly. Cool, align and trim the wick before relighting. For Ribbonwick candles gently run your fingers over the wick to remove any of the excess wick material or debris
  • Make sure you stop burning your candles when 10mm of wax remains at the bottom, keeping an eye on a burning candle when the wax is low
  • We recommend you use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame
  • Extinguish candle carefully, allow it to cool completely before touching or moving
  • If you notice air bubbles in your candle, do not be concerned. The candles are fine and should burn normally. The air bubbles form because these candles are made from soy wax and soy tends to be more sensitive to temperature changes
  • As for a little discolouration, it’s due to our generous amount of fragrance oil and those ingredients in the formula which are naturally-derived. Wooden wicks may also cause discolouration. These factors will not affect your Candle’s diffusion and lifespan

How To Store Your Candle

  • When your candle isn’t in use, store in a cool dry place and cover it with an elegant candle lid to protect the quality wax from dust, which can dull its scent and cause problems during burning
  • Condensation on the surface of a candle is a sign it has not been stored correctly, or has been stored for too long. Make sure to wipe this away with a paper towel before lighting
  • Storing candles for too long can affect the scent, so use your candle in a reasonable time to make the most of its beautiful fragrance

Did you know?

Each candle burns for varying lengths of time depending on the individual fragrance and how they are cared for. We have provided estimated times on each individual candle page and recommended following these care guides to get the most out of your candle.

Frosting in Candles and Wax Melts

Frosting is actually a unique and natural effect of using vegetable waxes, especially soy. The wax is trying to return back to its natural form and as a result it begins to crystallize. It doesn’t affect the performance of the candle in any way and also means your wax is 100% natural.

Safety Guidelines:

  • Always burn away from drafts, pets and children
  • Never leave a burning candle unattended
  • Always burn candles in a well-ventilated room
  • Candle, container and/or wax can become hot when in use. Never move a burning candle. Allow to cool before moving
  • Always burn candle on a level, heat resistant surface
  • Never burn a candle all the way down. Extinguish flame if it comes too close to the container
  • Never go to sleep with a candle still burning, and never leave a burning candle or oil burner in a child’s bedroom
  • Always remove labels and wrapping before lighting candles and other home fragrance products
  • Do not position candles or fragrance products on or near TV cabinets, electrical items or heat sources
  • Do not use if the glass container is cracked, chipped or broken
  • If a candle has multiple wicks, then all wicks must be lit every time
  • When lighting a candle using a match, take care to prevent any match debris from dropping onto the candle
  • Always keep the wax pool free from foreign objects such as wick trimmings, wick particles, match debris and dust
  • A burning candle may generate significant heat above the flame so always position well away from combustible materials
  • Don’t put candles under shelves. It’s easy to forget that there’s a lot of heat above a burning candle. If you put your candle under a shelf or other surface it may burn the surface above
  • Make sure there are at least three feet (one meter) between a candle and any surface above it
  • Keep clothes and hair safely away. If there’s any chance you could lean across a candle and forget it’s there, put it somewhere else. You don’t want to set fire to your clothes or your hair
  • Always read and follow the safety instructions carefully. Don’t burn a candle longer than recommend
  • You shouldn’t store your candles for longer than 12 months from the date of purchase.  After 12 months, candles can diffuse and burn less than expected
